MSAR STG-556 (steyr AUG clone) thoughts/impressions?

The newest model of this gun takes standard AR15 magazines. From what I've read they are very good quality, although I have not seen a direct comparison to a real AUG ($1000+ more, has proprietary magazines) in print.

They are possibly the coolest looking gun around, and the small size + standard barrel length is VERY appealing. I hear they they have unbeatable ergonomics as well.

Anyone have one or had experience shooting one? Please share your experiences.

TIA

Looks nice! Made by the people at Microtech.
The Steyr AUG sure had a nice feel to it. I have always liked them.

I see you finally made it out of San Diego.
How is your new home town?

The only gun I've ever sold was my Steyr AUG.

I still miss it and mourn the decision to sell it.

But I paid $600-$700 for it while I was in the Army. 1987. By 1991 it was worth $2000 cash. I couldn't take the pressure and sold it. Used the money to buy other guns. $2000 cash in 1991 money to a college student was just WAY too much money to ignore. It took away the fun factor of shooting the AUG. Every time I took it to the range and put some rounds to it, it felt like I was burning money. And taking a chance on it somehow breaking.

But I've wanted another one ever since. Sorry, can't say I've had any experience with the clones. Steyr USA is making them here now so I keep hoping I'll get one of those.

True, the original AUG uses proprietary mags. But they were very high quality mags. The rifle shipped with five 30 round mags when you bought it new. And extras weren't bad. The first time I saw a MagPul PMAG, I thought "just like my old AUG mags."

Hey EE. Going well here-- there's everything I am used to besides taco shops, and I am finding I don't mind doing without them :ok:

Now if I can just find work...

They are nice guns... we owned two of them. The fit and finish is not quite as nice as a real Steyr AUG but reasonably nice none the less. We were not terribly fond of their mags but the newest Microtech version accepts regular AR-15 mags which I would prefer. Overall its a fine weapon system... I just still prefer an AR-15 if my life was on the line. The bullpup design I find makes for slower mag changes but they are fun to shoot. Hope this helps a little.
